New York City House and Disco legend John Morales was hanging up his headphones.
Hailing from the Bronx, he has been involved in the creation of hit records for the better part of 40 years, playing at all the hotspots, including the infamous Studio 54.
An image of John is often used in promotional material, and we chose an iconic one. How to make it look interesting? Posterise it! By increasing the contrast of an image to create only a few tones, resulting in a striking graphic effect.
We selected four strong muted colours for the illustration – a teal green, a mustard, a dark blue and a mauve purple – and used them throughout the design as well. Behind John is a freehand scribble motif, adding visual interest to the textured background.
The typeface is composed of interesting asymmetric, semi-three dimensional Escher-esque forms. These combined elements meet the client brief of strong graphics, funky and freeform.
