Saddle up!
It was time to get back on the horse after the success of the inaugural Waipu-Palooza music festival, held in March 2022 near Waipu north of Auckland, New Zealand. In the spirit of the art of Lollapalooza posters, we designed a whole new look for the 2023 event.
We wrangled some rope lettering and put it on a gentle curve, reminiscent of a lasso. Rising up to meet it is a cowboy on a bucking horse, beautifully drawn in an old tritone style.
The other typeface was used in the 2022 design, providing a visual link to the 2023 event layout. The ribbon graphic is also repeated, though is now curved with more flair to flow with the rope lettering. Sunset hues form shapes of the expansive landscape, creating a groovy early evening wild western vibe.
All the elements work together to convey the image of a slightly battered vintage postcard from where you’d rather be.
